Small Films 08: North Pole

North Pole

A Weekly Short Film Review

Today’s small film, North Pole, follows a teenage girl caught in the social stigma and pressures surrounding her virginity. Directed by Marija Apcevska, this coming-of-age short opens our minds to reflect on the societal pressures we’re going through regarding age, gender, and sexual identity. How do we react to our place in society and the circumstances we’re going through? A teenage girl under pressure to become a woman questions all this through her eyes and mind.

A successful short film, North Pole, was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 and won numerous European awards. According to several websites, Marija Apcevska is working on her first full-length, Spring Cleaning. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

Enjoy this one!
